Claremore Regional Airport set to begin apron rehabilitation project
January 14, 2023
Oklahoma has a rich history in aerospace, filled with stories of aviation enthusiasts like Wiley Post and Clyde Cessna. Today, our state continues to be a leader in this growing industry and is at the forefront of aviation innovation, improvement and development.
Rogers County is home to a thriving aerospace manufacturing sector, with leaders such as MST Manufacturing, Pryer Aerospace and Blue Arc Metal Specialties. Additionally, the Claremore Regional Airport is home to two public-facing aviation companies, Jaeger Aircraft and ForwardVUE Aviation Services.
Over the past year, the airport has celebrated exciting development with the opening of a new 10-unit t-hangar building, representing a total capital investment of nearly $800,000. This new facility was the direct result of high regional demand and interest. As we enter 2023, our team will continue the momentum of growth and improvement.
In April, work will begin to repair and replace the airport apron, or the part of the airport where vehicles and planes share the same space. As with other infrastructure, the apron has deteriorated over the years through daily use. This project will add a two to three-inch mill and overlay, with full-depth subgrade repairs and underground drainage installation. Regular preventative maintenance, such as the apron rehabilitation project, promotes safety and provides pilots with the necessary resources to fly securely.
Quality infrastructure is imperative as the Claremore Regional Airport seeks new initiatives. Across the country, hangar space is in high demand. This need was evident when the airport announced the construction of its new t-hangar facility in 2021. All bays within the unit were reserved within an hour of the initial announcement. As we look to the future, it is clear that a dedicated building for commercial operations is needed.
Through grant support from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission (OAC), the Claremore Regional Airport will construct a committed commercial hangar space. This project will additionally address drainage challenges which will serve as a catalyst for future private development.
Be on the lookout for future announcements on the new facility on the Claremore Regional Airport Facebook page.
The sky is the limit for aviation in Oklahoma. By continued investment in infrastructure, facilities and amenities, the Claremore Regional Airport can fulfill its mission of serving as Northeast Oklahoma’s premier regional airport destination.
